I just installed Office through my Office subscription I have as a faculty member of my university. Outlook is responding extremely slowly to simple activities such as scrolling, moving emails, opening emails, etc. Typically the lag is seconds and if you add that up for each little activity I do, I can no longer be productive using this product. I have went to the point of uninstalling office fully and reinstalling and the lag is still persistent.

I am running Windows 7 and Outlook version I need to do something about this or I will not be able to keep my sanity while I try to work in Outlook. Any help is greatly appreciated. So far I have not been enjoying at all. Whatever bells and whistles they add are a null if the program doesn’t do the simple activities we need it to do.

I am sorry to hear that you are not able to use Outlook normally as it has been slow to perform simple activities. What are the steps you have tried so far to resolve the issue? Apart from un-installing and re-installing Office have your tried anything else?

In case you have not tried to launch Outlook in the applications safe mode, then we will check if the issue resolves while working in Word Safe Mode. In order to open Word in the Safe Mode please follow the steps as shown on the following Microsoft Resource article. Check if you were able to open and work with Word normally without the Word lag. If yes, then follow the next set of steps mentioned in the article to troubleshoot Add-ins in Word to resolve the issue.

Try the above steps and let us know if you need further assistance, or provide us with the exact error message. Was this reply helpful?

Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. I am working at a customer site. While I don’t want to completely hijack this issue that wushufanatic has asked, I can confirm some of our troubleshooting. I repeat your statement about not wanting to hijack this thread, but I can confirm that the problem exists on Windows 10 also. Office worked like a charm earlier, but after upgrading to Office , Outlook is extremely laggy. Switching between folders seems to be the worst problem, but even switching between selected e-mails is slow.

I look forward to your reply to assist you further. Thank you. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another. It seems to be a relatively intermittent problem.

After a couple of reboots the other day still with the reg key in place , the problem seemingly went away. Now, after a day or two without reboots, it seems a bit slower again – but nowhere near as bad as before when it could take seconds to switch folders. I have not been able to uncover other people with the issue here at the office.

I will have to do further testing here before I can come to any conclusion as to whether the problem persists or not. Start Outlook in safe mode following steps mentioned below to verify if any Add-in is creating issue. If Outlook works as expected in safe mode, disable the add-ins by following steps mentioned below to determine the problem causing add-in: a Click on File menu, click Options , Add-ins , Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add. If the issue reappears again, it will help you to determine which add-in is causing this issue.

In reply to Mohan Suryanarayan’s post on November 11, Restarting Outlook in safe mode, it does not fix the issue. Word also sees a delay, but not to the extent that Outlook was having. We are running Office in a cloud-subscription license. We have also disabled all add-ins with regards to Office.

Does not affect the issue. In reply to blyons’s post on November 11, The registry key has been tried, but I can not confirm whether or not there is a difference. In reply to KaiFjo’s post on November 23, Hi Kai, Sorry for delayed response. Please provide more information before we proceed. In reply to A. User’s post on November 25, Hi Vardhaman, Thank you for your reply. I have not experienced any perfomance issues outside of Outlook. In reply to KaiFjo’s post on November 26, Hello, Thank you for keeping us posted.

Additional details: Users that were upgrading their Office installs to , running the Office licensing model, did not have their mail migrated from on-premise to Office at the time. For some of the users, the issue cleared up after mail migration to the cloud.

Strange, I know, but still something to note. Some users still having slowness are running laptops with 4 GB of memory only. Only one user that I’m aware of who has 8 GB of memory is having issues still, but the complexity of the spreadsheets she is opening could be part of the problem.
